Terms of Study

v1.5-20160722

This page details the terms and conditions of study on the Chichester College teacher training (TESOL (TEFL/TESL) courses in Thailand.

  1. Application Procedure

    1. All applications received will be judged on their own merits. Due to the fact that applicants can be from any nationality in the world, creation of a set of entry requirements is not practical.
    2. All applications received will be responded to. This usually happens within 12-24 hours, but can sometimes take as long as a week.
    3. A response to an application can take a number of different forms:
      1. A letter of acceptance
      2. A letter of refusal
      3. Additional questions to clarify points on the application form to aid in one of the two responses above.
    4. Chichester College is not obliged to disclode the exact reasons for the refusal if it is deemed appropriate by the lead trainer. If an application is refused, the applicant has the right to appeal the decision.
    5. Acceptance of an application does not automatically guarantee study on a specific date. A place on a specific course date can only be secured by the payment of a deposit.
  2. Securing a Place and Postponement / Cancellation

    1. Once an applicant has been offered a place on a course, they will receive an email which will contain an official offer. This offer does not guarantee a place on a specific course date, but is a guarantee that the applicant is permitted to pay a security deposit in order to secure a place.
    2. The amount required to secure a place on any course is US$300. Upon receipt of this payment, the applicant will be informed, by email, that their place has been secured. A hardcopy receipt is available upon request.
    3. Once a place has been secured on a course, the applicant is guaranteed to be able to begin their study on the date confirmed in the email received, providing that they pay the balance of the course fees by the specified deadline. Although postponement of study is possible, a refund of the deposit or course fees is not possible as long as the institute is running the course on the promised dates.
    4. The specified deadline for payment of the balance of TESOL(TEFL/TESL) courses are either two weeks before the start date of the course, if visa assistance is not required; or before visa documentation is released, if visa assistance is required.
    5. In the event that a place on a course has been secured, but the applicant does not settle the balance of the fees by the deadline, the application will be canceled and there will be no option for a refund.
    6. In the event that the applicant does not present themselves for study on the first day of the course, the application will be canceled and there will be no option for a refund.
    7. Postponing to a subsequent course is not possible unless 2 weeks notice (in advance of the start date of the course) is given.
    8. Should the course be canceled by the institute for any reason, the applicant will be notified and given the opportunity to choose to either postpone to another course or receive a full refund.
  3. During the Course

    1. Course participants must arrive on time and in a fit state to study at all times.
    2. Non-attendance for any particular session, or late arrival, will result in a written warning, sent by email to the address the participant provides when applying for the course, and the participant will be required to re-take the missed session at their own expense. Three written warnings will result in exclusion from the course upon the next offence. Certain exceptions are possible:
      1. Medical proof for reason of absence.
      2. Exceptional circumstances, to be determined on a case-by-case basis by the principal trainer.
    3. Following non-attendance or late-attendance of any session, it will be the responsibility of the participant to arrange to re-take the sessions missed within 3 months of the start date of the course. This can be done in one of two ways:
      1. A private one-to-one tutorial session at a cost of US$250 / session
      2. Join an identical session with the next available group at a cost of US$150 / session
    4. If the participant misses a session that cannot be conducted on a one-to-one basis (such as an excursion) then 3.3.1 will not be applicable and 3.3.2 will be the only option.
    5. Course participants arriving at the centre intoxicated or under the influence of drugs will be automatically excluded from the course. Other grounds for automatic exclusion include inappropriate behaviour, threats and unwanted advancement and/or harassment towards fellow classmates, tutors or administration staff. Serious cases will also be referred to the local authorities.
    6. Participants excluded from a course under clause 3.2 will have the chance to enroll on a future identical course, by re-paying 40% of the course fees. Participants excluded under clause 3.5 will not have an opportunity to re-enroll.
  4. After the Course

    1. Successful completion of any course will result in the award of the certificate or diploma appropriate, as described in the course outline. Failure to complete all of the components of the course and attend all of the sessions will mean that a certificate cannot be issued. Unless the principal trainer deems it futile, course participants failing to complete a course will have the chance to redeem themselves within 3 months of the start date of their course by:
      1. Completing the elements of the course that they did not pass (if it is possible for the elements to be completed on an private basis without any tutorials) and be re-evaluated with the next group of course participants at a cost of US$150.
      2. In the case that it is not possible to complete the required elements on an individual basis without any tutorials, enrol on a future identical course and re-take the necessary sessions, at a cost of 40% of the course fees.
    2. Certificates and diplomas for those passing the course will be available for collection at the Training Centre in Bangkok two weeks after the final session of the course. Certificates and diplomas not collected by the course participant at this time will be held for a period of 12 months and then destroyed.
    3. If you are unable to collect the certificate yourself, it can be sent to you by DHL, FedEx or UPS courier at a cost of US$100 and will be replaced free of charge should it be lost by the courier. Certificates cannot be sent through regular postal services.
    4. Replacement certificates can be requested for upto 5 years after graduation at a cost US$150 and will be available for collection at the Training Centre in Bangkok or sending by courier within 4-6 weeks of payment being made.
